Hi from Jamal

Hey everyone! What’s up? I’m Jamal, and I’ll be kicking things off for this issue of NEXT. As a junior, I’m just starting to think about graduation and everything I need to do before then. I’m both excited and a little overwhelmed, but the school counselor and my senior friends have given me some great advice about how to handle it all. In this chapter, I’ll be paying it forward so that you, too, can get started on your journey.

At the moment, I think that I might go the transfer route — you know, do the required courses for an A.A. at a community college, then transfer into a state university. It’s important for me to consider affordable options while still jumping right into my college career. I have a couple of younger siblings, too, so staying local for a bit longer feels like the right move. But I still need to do some research and talk to some folks before I make the final call.

My buddies Noah, Priya, Mateo, and Chloe are gonna to tell you more about some of these steps in the next few chapters (things like making application spreadsheets and getting teacher recommendations), so don’t worry — we got you.
