Higher Education Options

There are multiple paths to a college degree. Florida has nearly 100 colleges and universities across the three major systems: the State University System (SUS), the Florida College System (FCS) and the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF). In addition, there are almost 50 technical and career colleges – also part of the FCS. No matter your goals, you can find an option that works for you!

State University System

Overview

  • Public universities (e.g., UF, FSU, UCF)
  • Generally larger institutions
  • Offer bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral degrees
  • More research-focused
  • Admission can be more competitive

Florida College System

  • Primarily offer associate degrees (A.A., A.S.)
  • Some bachelor’s degrees offered
  • Open door admission for many programs

  • Smooth transfer pathway to SUS via 2+2 agreement

Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida

  • Vary widely in size, mission, religious affiliation
  • Privately funded, generally higher tuition
  • Typically smaller student bodies
