Your College Wish List: Dream vs. Reality

If you feel like you don’t even know where to start when thinking about colleges, try making a wish list. You might be navigating uncharted territory here, so we recommend mapping out both your “dream” list and your “reality” list.

The “dream” list is all about aspiration: what might an ideal college experience look and feel like to you? Don’t hold back!

The “reality” list, on the other hand, is practical and grounded: what do you really need to make college accessible and successful?

For example, if you’re thinking about potential majors, your “dream” might be something like, “I want to study astrophysics at a university with its own observatory.” That’s an amazing, specific, potentially niche program you’re looking for — but it exists somewhere! By contrast, your “reality” might be more general, like, “I want to major in the sciences and the college needs to have a strong biology or chemistry department.” P.S.: It’s okay if you’re unsure about your major.

Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, you can start researching schools online, and talk to your school counselor and friends and family to find the best fit. With more than 150 colleges and universities in Florida, the right school for you is out there. Good luck!
