Dream Big. Plan S.M.A.R.T.

The key to setting goals is to keep them S.M.A.R.T. This framework guides you in writing goals that are Specific, Manageable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.

As you start to wrap up your high school career and take those first steps into adulthood, you’ll have the perfect chance to set some goals to stay on track and organized. We’re not talking life goals or anything, just some targets to set your sights on for now.

General Goal S.M.A.R.T. Goal
Study better
I will review notes for 30 minutes daily, a different subject each day and dedicate an extra 90 minutes to prep before a big test. I’ll do this by transferring my classnotes into a different format, like flashcards, or re-teaching the information to my younger sister. If my test grades don’t improve, I’ll meet with my teachers to ask them how to study more effectively.
Write my application essays early
I will complete the first draft of my personal statement by August 15 of my senior year, aiming for around 650 words and have it reviewed by my English teacher at the start of the school year.
Improve my time management
I will make a calendar for each major project or essay that breaks the work down into manageable chunks (meaning each part can be completed in one sitting) and schedules time to work both in class and at home.
