Almost a million people move to Florida every single year and that’s great news for anyone who wants to work in skilled trades, which are often tied to the housing and travel sectors.

The highest-paying fields are lineworkers, commercial truck drivers, AV technicians and elevator install and repair technicians, all of whom typically earn around $66,000 per year. However, many of these jobs offer a lot of overtime opportunities, and salaries can easily top $100,000 for reliable workers.

Many trades require either a two-year degree or on-the-job training (apprenticeships), which come at a much lower cost than a university degree. In addition, lots of companies are willing to pay for tuition and equipment for current or future employees, making it essentially free to learn a trade.
