Teacher Transcript

  1. Teacher: Read the article, “Your News, Your Views” in the NEXT magazine. Do you think that you and your peers can publish a newspaper with articles that are timely and true? Today you will get that chance.
  2. Teacher: Place students in groups of 4. Then display the directions for this activity on the board. As you do that begin explaining the goal and expectations of the task.
  3. Teacher: Your group is considered a newspaper publishing company. Each of you in the group will be a journalist who contributes to the newspaper. Follow the directions on the whiteboard explaining what the goal is and the work you will be required to complete.

    Directions:

    • Brainstorm in your group about topics that are trending today and/or topics of interest to you personally.
    • Come up with a name for the newspaper
    • Each of you should choose one of the topics to research
    • Write a newspaper article – remember to give your article a catchy name
    • Proofread carefully check grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
    • Print all the articles
    • Using poster board, situate each of the articles (hot glue gun or a glue stick) on the poster board
    • Display the work in the classroom
