Teacher Transcript
- Teacher: Read the article, “Your News, Your Views” in the NEXT magazine. Do you think that you and your peers can publish a newspaper with articles that are timely and true? Today you will get that chance.
- Teacher: Place students in groups of 4. Then display the directions for this activity on the board. As you do that begin explaining the goal and expectations of the task.
- Teacher: Your group is considered a newspaper publishing company. Each of you in the group will be a journalist who contributes to the newspaper. Follow the directions on the whiteboard explaining what the goal is and the work you will be required to complete.
Directions:
- Brainstorm in your group about topics that are trending today and/or topics of interest to you personally.
- Come up with a name for the newspaper
- Each of you should choose one of the topics to research
- Write a newspaper article – remember to give your article a catchy name
- Proofread carefully check grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
- Print all the articles
- Using poster board, situate each of the articles (hot glue gun or a glue stick) on the poster board
- Display the work in the classroom
