Florida State Standards

LAFS.1112.RL.1.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matter uncertain.

LAFS.1112.W.3.7 Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question (including a self-generated question) or solve a problem; narrow or broaden the inquiry when appropriate; synthesize multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.

LAFS.1112.SL.2.5 Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.

LAFS.1112.WHST.2.6 Use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products in response to ongoing feedback, including new arguments or information.

 

Introduction:  Success is at everyone’s fingertips. The way and means we use to achieve success are different for everyone.  One of the ways to do this is to market yourself.  This can happen by taking the time and knowing some of the steps to take towards personal branding and thus success in achieving your goals.

Introduction: Marketing yourself is something that you do every day.  For example, a positive first impression upon meeting someone is marketing yourself.  There are however, other ways to successfully and positively market ourselves. 

Teacher Transcript and Student Instructions:

  1. Teacher: Read the article “How to Market Myself:  7 Steps to Build Your Brand”  
  2. Teacher: Using the 7 steps listed in this article write one step on each of 7 index cards.
  3. Teacher: Place students in small groups of 2.  One student will be the interviewer and the other will be the interviewee in creating a podcast.
  4. Teacher: Have each small group choose 3 index card and have them immediately note which three steps chosen. These will be the topics for the podcast. 
  5. Teacher:

Student Instructions:  Using a free audio app such as GarageBand, Audacity or Studio One to record an original interview concerning the 3 steps of building your own brand they’ve chosen to discuss.

  4. Sign-off comments
  1. Teacher: Students share their podcasts with others in the class.
