Teacher Transcript
- Teacher: Take a few minutes to read the NEXT article, “Careers in Popular Majors”. Be sure to look at the chart towards the bottom of the article.
- Teacher: Divide students into pairs.
- Teacher: I will post the instructions for this team task on the board. Let’s review them together. (Post the instructions below either using a Word document or PowerPoint.)
Goal: The students will be able to create a short video promoting their chosen careers. This video will be sent to high school guidance departments to help high school seniors choose a college major.
- From the list in the article, “Careers in Popular Majors” choose 2 careers that you and your teammate are interested in.
- Research each of the majors chosen.
- What are the possible careers that can come from these majors? (Use the information from the article as well as independent research.) For example, soft skills required, technology skills required, overall employability skills.
- Write a transcript of dialogue to use in a video recording promoting the major and the careers.
- Practice before recording and make necessary adjustments
- Record the informational video (the video should be no longer than 5-8 minutes)
- Share the video with your classmates
